Workers protest in front of the head office of Voda Phone-Idea, a mobile service and internet service provider in Pune today.

The company, which provides internet and mobile services, has a vital role to play in providing mobile services to millions of customers. Kothrud Pune Company, a nominal contractor, Prism Services Property Solutions Pvt. Along with this, the amount due to the workers has not been paid. As the matter is erroneous and illegal and in violation of the provisions of the Labor Act, the contractors affiliated to the Indian Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) demanded re-employment with the previous terms of service.

. Sachin Mengale has warned the workers to go on a hunger strike in front of the office if they do not get immediate justice.

    In the past, the company had more than 5000 workers and various agencies working in Maharashtra.  But the company gradually reduced the number of workers.  The workers had contributed immensely to the progress and development of the company.  The workers who were laid off on September 2, 2021, during the Covid Lockdown period, continued to work for the good of the society, regardless of their own lives or the lives of their families.  But without considering this contribution, management expressed outrage at the illegal dismissal of workers.

After the demonstrations, discussions were held with Voda Phone-Idea Company, Prism Services and Indian Trade Union Confederation officials and the company assured that a decision would be taken soon after understanding the pending issues of workers’ compensation.

The agitation was led by Sachin Mengale, General Secretary, Contractors’ Union, Navnath Gundgal, Pradeep Kondhalkar, Anil Kirdak, Rupesh Baraskar and Sudhir Joshi. In this agitation, Arjun Chavan, President of Indian Trade Union Pune District, Umesh Anerao, Working President of Maharashtra Electricity Contract Workers Union, Union Minister Rahul Bodke gave guidance.
